25 Suggestions for Kenneth Feinberg About BP Claims

Here are the first 25 suggestions for Kenneth Feinberg, head of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, sent in by people who filled out the BP Claims Report Card earlier today. These people were responding to the question, “Any suggestions for Kenneth Feinberg? (optional).” Not a single one of the first 25 people to fill out the Report Card failed to make a suggestion for Feinberg. The 25 suggestions you will find in this post are the first 25 submitted; I have not edited the suggestions at all.

Although the BP Claims Report Card is not a scientific survey, and there is no way to guarantee that everyone who fills out the report card actually has filed a claim with BP, the 25 suggestions contained in this post certainly appear authentic. They also open a window on the very real, very painful circumstances our Gulf Coast residents are facing through no fault of their own.

25 Suggestions from our readers for Kenneth Feinberg

“This process is out of control as far as the length of time it takes to get satisfaction on a partial payment. I have been waiting since Aug.23rd to get a response on my ongoing business BP claim thru the GCCF and have yet to get an answer other than ( claim under review ). The so called helpline is nothing but an answering service. They are no help to anyone, the same answers that they give are the same as you can see online. Packets were printed and mailed to claimants a week after the process began. The money spent on this for printing, mailings, and the amount of trees destroyed is useless. We don’t need townhall meeting, or interviews , what we need is to have our claims paid,if not in full a partial payment so we can pay our obligations. Now knowing when your claim will be looked at or a date when funds will be available is frustrating.”

“I would suggest that he take into affect prior BP determinations and further look into job titles and of claimants and pay them accordingly instead of low balling claimants.”

“I want compensation for lack of VOO work that I was denied while others were chosen SINCE yopu have decided to allow VOO people to now “double dip”. I was repeately denied the opportunity to work while my business had STOPPED. I want to be treated equally.”

“Why did the GCCF get involved in my claim? According to BP they had everything they needed. I was told I’d know something within tens days but ten days later they said I had to start over.”

“Yes, in order for you to get any answers I am being told that once I file a FINAL PAYMENT claim they will talk to me. They still will not even say if I will get all the money I lost. It is a hide and seek game. Why does someone have to file a FINAL PAYMNET to get anything. Something fishy going on.”

“1. Hire more claims adjusters;
2. Empower the people you have;
3. Give the people that answer the calls some real information. and ability to do something.”

“get over the distance thing when a claim is 100% about fresh Gulf seafood.”

“I filed 4 weeks ago and my claim status still says “under review.” There are other people that I work with that have received more than they asked for and filed one week after I did. All I want is what I think I have lost.”

“Feinberg needs to walk in our shoes for awhile. I bet his family aren’t going without.”

“I made the claim with BP and they said all my paper work is in order,But evedently I fell under the moritorium.Other Divers recieved their payment except me.”

he should resign. he is either corrupt with his inner circle of adjusters or just plain incompetent”

Bring Mortgage Underwriters into analyze files; as underwriters we made decisions and were able to underwrite 12 loans per day. Make a checklist of required documents and put on website for All to see.”

He needs to step down. Im tired of all the propaganda and empty rhetoric. Step up or Step down!”

“Fix the process or quit so someone who’s capable can run it.”

“4 weeks and no check Yet ? BP was paying me ! BP had just approved a 23K check for July that i never received because you took over, they had already paid me $ 28k for June ! Now No Check for Months because you took over. Also i have other business friends that are only getting checks for 10 % of their loss ! They ask for their loss ‘s for 6 months of 120k and get a check for 12k to pay their business rents and employee’s ? whats the deal?”

U should quit.”

“Feinberg brags that he is paying 1000-1500 claims per day. However, I have been tracking Mississippi claims, and on 09/18/2010 he only paid 48 claims in Mississippi!! Why are we being left out? We have families to feed just like all the other states!!!!!!!!!”

“Quit lieing and stealing our mony how can you sleep at night? At this point there is no way you could have not ment for this to happen. We are not stupid we know you are to smart to have made this system not work any better than this!!!!”

“1) Put local representatives in impacted areas so claimants will have someone that can address their concerns.
2) Procure study to best define volume of business in effective areas if the spill hadn’t happened and then use that data percentage to base payments to claimants.
3) No more false promises from Mr. Feinberg. People are losing all they had due to something they had no control of nor could they have purchased insurance for this type of event.
4) Make the emergency payments larger and reconcile at final payment
5) Define protocol of “Final Payment”…no why to know the long term impact of the spill so how is that going to be considered in a final payment?”

“hire extra professional help”

“Please publish realistic processing times and relevant information as to how claims are processed, first come, lottery, etc.
“As an attorney appointed to this job in June you should have known exactly what documents were needed and been as you compiled the list. You should have staffed the system to handle the case load as you also knew the number of bp carry over cases.IN THE BEGGINING PIBLISH YOUR PROCESS AND ALL CAN SEE IT SO THERE ARE NO SURPRISES!
PLEASE DON;T MAKE ANYMORE PROMISSES IN A NEWS CONFERENCE THAT ARE NOT TRUE.

“Make the process faster…”

Provide the calculation method…..it is math, not voodoo and it is my livilihood!”

“He could of paid every single claim $50,000 (not saying everyone should of gotten that much and that some don’t deserve more) and only spent 2.5 billion or 12.5% of money in the fund. Do your job and write checks!!”

“Mr. Feinberg, why did you promise people what you knew could not be done? My suggestion is to be honest and upfront with us, we are not stupid and knew it an impossible task when you said it.”

  1. Christine says:

I filed a claim in July with BP, was basically approved pending documentation of taxes, then I had ot refile with GCCF in Oct when I finally got tired of waiting to see what was up, I found out I had to begin all over, only to be DENIED by GCCF…

I am now filing under OPA!!!

  2. Mr. Feinberg is obviously a committed liberal who has been doing his own version of weath redistribution. Waiters, Waitresses, and Bar Tenders were given huge amounts of money while businessmen and women and business owners were shortchanged big time. I’m sure Feinberg told his accountants to pay the lower end of the socio-economic strata a lot of money and give much less to everyone else. I think he has been a complete and utter failure. We had to release employees and cut back the hours of other employees since he gave us a whopping 8% of what our business asked for. I think he should be investigated big time…..

  3. In my opinion Feinburg SUX. i live in P.C.B. Florida and I have been trying for over a year to get something out of them. The only thing i have gotten is DENIAL letters. First the lost some of my information and said i needed to resend. Second they said I didnt prove my losses. Third they said i proved my losses but didnt prove that I lost it because of the OIL SPILL. I am really not understanding this. I work at a high rise on the beach and we had people canceling reservations left and right because of THE SPILL. I also cleaned condos at Bay Point and the biggest fishing tournament of the year…The Billfish Inventational….had to be canceled because the waters were closed to fishing. I may not be the brightest crayon in the box but I know it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out if you live in a tourist community and your line of work depends on our tourist and they start canceling that you lose money. Maybe Feinberg needs to go on the show Undercover Boss and see just how hard it is in the different fields that depend on our tourist. Im pretty sure his family is being taking care of while mine is still suffering. I just want this to be over and get what I think I deserve!!!!!!!
